On Friday 9 July 2021, Julio Daniel Consuegra Fuentes, President of the Executive Board and Legal Representative of the Primero de Julio District Neighborhood Association, Guatemala, Guatemalan and member of the Vicalama Association for Ecological Development, filed an environmental submission with the Secretariat for Environmental Matters of the Dominican Republic, Central America United States Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA-DR), asserting that the Republic of Guatemala is allegedly failing to effectively enforce its environmental laws.
On the submission identified as CAALA/21/001 and referred to as (Colonia Primero De Julio - GT)” the submitter asserts that “(...) the existence of three (3) dumpsites or dumpsite areas adjacent to the ravines (...) in recent years they have been neglected by the authorities and used as drainage and illegal dumpsites”.
