On Sunday July 11, 2021, Bienvenida Narrete Montilla, President of the Neighbor’s Council “El Chucho La Yuca”, filed a submission to the Secretariat for Environmental Matters of the Free Trade Agreement between the Dominican Republic, Central America, and the United States of America - DR-CAFTA (SEM), which asserts that the Dominican Republic is allegedly failing to enforce its environmental legislation effectively.
In the submission identified as CAALA/21/002 “Los Alcarrizos – RD”, the submitter denounces the alleged irregularities in the construction of a gas station in the Los Alcarrizos Municipality and asserts that “the environmental law is being violated in many ways, Law 64-00 establishes that before granting an environmental permit in a given territory, the local government must be consulted and the local government must consult with the impacted community and the environmental impact must be presented, in the case of the Extra-Gasolina company, this has never been shown.”
