On April 23rd, 2024, a Guatemalan citizen filed a submission to the Secretariat for Environmental Matters of the Free Trade Agreement between the Dominican Republic, Central America, and the United States of America – CAFTA-DR (SEM), in which he asserts that the Republic of Guatemala is allegedly failing to enforce its environmental legislation effectively.
In the submission identified as CAALA/24/003 “Waste Disposal Galilea -GT”, the submitter denounces the existence of illegal garbage dumps in the perimeter of the residential complex “Colonia Galilea”, located in zone 18 of the municipality of Guatemala.
